America Finally Gets a True Street-Legal Microcar
Wink Motors Introduces the Lowest-Priced Street-Legal Microcar EV in the United States at $19,995
NEW YORK, NY — Wink Motors today announced the introduction of the Wink, a fully enclosed electric micro-vehicle engineered specifically to meet U.S. Department of Transportation street-legal requirements.
The Wink is street-legal, insurable, and eligible for license plates in 49 states (currently excluding New York State) for operation on most public roads with posted speed limits up to 35 mph.
Priced complete at $19,995, the Wink is the lowest-priced street-legal microcar EV currently available in the United States. Unlike many vehicles that require optional upgrades, the vehicle comes fully equipped at this price with no required add-ons.
Ultra-compact electric vehicles of this size have been widely used in international cities for many years. The Wink represents one of the first vehicles of its type engineered specifically for U.S. federal regulations while offering a level of refinement, safety engineering, and standard equipment rarely found in vehicles of this category.
In addition to meeting federal low-speed vehicle requirements, the Wink incorporates more than 30 safety features that exceed federal standards, reflecting a design philosophy focused on real-world street use.
“Our goal was to create a true microcar designed specifically for American streets,” said Mark Dweck, President and Founder of Wink Motors. “Vehicles of this size have proven practical around the world for many years. We engineered the Wink to meet U.S. regulations while delivering the comfort, safety, and everyday usability American drivers expect.”
Designed for Real-World Drivers
Despite its compact footprint, the Wink was engineered to comfortably accommodate four full-size adults, including occupants up to approximately 6 feet 6 inches tall and 300 pounds.
The fully enclosed five-door hatchback offers practicality similar to a small passenger vehicle while maintaining an extremely compact footprint ideal for urban mobility.
Every vehicle comes standard with features commonly found in larger automobiles, including air conditioning and heat, power windows and power door locks, Bluetooth connectivity with hands-free calling, and a high-definition backup camera.
Built with Automotive Precision
The Wink is produced using robotically controlled manufacturing processes including robotic welding, automated structural assembly, and precision paint application to maintain tight tolerances and consistent build quality.
The vehicle is built around a reinforced steel unibody structure that forms a protective passenger safety cell. Occupant protection is further enhanced by DOT-rated three-point inertia-reel shoulder harness seatbelts, an automotive-style safety feature not required under federal low-speed vehicle regulations.
Additional safety and visibility features include a dual-circuit power brake system with front disc and rear drum brakes, a six-lamp hazard warning system, a high-mounted center brake light, and a triple-flash door alert system that warns nearby drivers when passengers exit the vehicle.
Simple Home Charging
Wink vehicles are powered by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology known for durability, long cycle life, and thermal stability.
Owners can recharge the vehicle using a standard 110-volt household outlet, or more quickly through 220-volt appliance outlets commonly found in homes, allowing most drivers to recharge overnight without specialized charging equipment.
A Modern Sales and Service Model
Wink Motors has introduced a modern customer-focused sales and service approach designed for nationwide accessibility.
Prospective buyers can receive live one-on-one vehicle demonstrations through video or FaceTime, allowing customers to explore the vehicle, ask questions, and view features in detail without visiting a showroom.
For service and maintenance, Wink works with a nationwide network of more than 10,000 independent mechanics across the United States. In many cases, owners can continue working with their preferred local mechanic, who is vetted by Wink and supported by the company’s technical team through real-time video guidance.
During the warranty period, Wink overnights replacement parts at no cost and works directly with the local mechanic, paying the mechanic for warranty repairs. This approach allows owners to receive service close to home while maintaining factory-supported technical assistance.
Compact EVs Gain Attention in American Cities
As congestion increases and vehicle ownership costs continue to rise, smaller electric vehicles designed for short daily trips are gaining renewed attention in U.S. cities. With its compact size, low operating costs, and extensive standard equipment, the Wink offers an economical transportation option and strong value for drivers seeking efficient urban mobility.
