The Wacky World Of Golf Cars

How to Store Your Golf Car in the Winter

For many of you who live in Florida or Arizona, the thought of storing your golf car during the cold months may seem foreign. But, for the rest of us, it is a reality. We enjoy our golf cars for as long as we can- using enclosures and heaters. Eventually, it is time to store them while we wait out the frigid months.Taking the time to properly store your golf car during the winter can prolong nearly every component and extend the use of your golf car by years.

Wash and Detail Your Golf Car

Before storing, make sure that your golf car is clean. Give it a good scrub, using soap and water and degreaser, if needed. Pay attention to the wheels and tires and make sure that no grime is left to corrode your golf car while in storage.

Check the Battery for Corrosion

Inspect the battery for signs of corrosion. Mix a bit of baking soda with water and use a toothbrush to clean each battery terminal. Rinse and dry. Check the ends of the battery cables and replace, if necessary.

Time for a Maintenance Inspection

Imagine that the weather is warm and you are excited to pull your golf car from storage and begin enjoying it again. Except, it isn’t working properly. Avoid that frustrating situation by performing a complete inspection. Make sure that all wires are connected and switches are functioning properly. Check the wheel bearings and wire harnesses. Replace needed parts before storing.

Prep the Golf Cart Batteries

Fill each battery with distilled water. If you plan to use a battery maintainer, test it to make sure it works properly. If you aren’t going to keep the batteries on a charger, fully charge them and then disconnect the battery cables for storage.

Check Tire Pressure

Fill the tires to the appropriate pressure level to avoid flattening of the tires during storage. Place blocks behind the tires to prevent accidental moving. If possible, roll your golf car a few feet every month to avoid flat spots in tires.

Taking this time to properly prepare your golf car for winter storage will pay off in the end when your golf car is in tip top shape and ready fro spring.
