Julie, tell our readers a brief history of your Company…
In 2008, I served on the Board of Directors for my son’s Pop Warner football league. When I offered to help dress up the league’s golf car with the team colors and mascot, I could never have guessed that it would lead to more than a decade in the golf car business. I searched online for a color matching steering wheel, body decals and a custom dash and came up empty. I did find Strech Plastics, though. That’s when I had my lightbulb moment and I immediately filed for my LLC and became an online dealer for Strech Plastics. Since that day, with the help of my amazing supplier network, I have shipped more than a million golf car parts around the world.
When I began this golf car adventure, it was unheard of to have an online retail experience without having a brick and mortar. It was also uncommon for a woman to own a golf car business. This is what sets me apart from the rest.
What Area Of The Golf Cart Industry Is WHEELZ Involved In?
When I first launched my online store, I dabbled a bit in custom builds. I quickly realized that I prefer owning and operating an online golf car parts and accessories store the most. My family loves to travel and we enjoy a flexible schedule. I am not built for 9 to 5 brick and mortar hours. I am happy to leave the custom golf car builds for someone else and focus on my skill set, which is digital marketing.
Have Any Of Your Golf Carts Been Featured Somewhere?
In our early days, a few of our custom builds were featured in calendars. We donated a custom build to a local charity and have built a few celebrity golf cars. Our online experience is what I am most proud of and what we focus on today. We take great pride in being able to provide unique and innovative golf car parts and accessories to golf car owners in every part of the US. Not everyone lives near a golf car dealer and many golf car owners love to DIY their golf cars. Those are our people.
Is There A Characteristic Or Quality That You Feel Is Essential To Your Success?
Supplier relationships are critical to the success of WHEELZ. Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of getting to know the wonderful manufacturers and distributors that make the golf car industry so special. I have shared dinner and drinks, lots of laughter, frustration and even a few tears as I developed relationships with my supplier partners.
What else would you like to tell our readers.
My serendipitous introduction to the golf car industry has become a way of life for my family. I love that our products contribute, in a positive way, to the fast-growing golf car culture. Now, get outside and cruise around in your golf car!
